London Grilling: Lucy Fisher-Jenkins, Founder of Twinkle & Twine

In this week’s London Grilling we caught up with pr and marketing executive - come entrepreneur, Lucy Fisher-Jenkins, for a chat about her fantastic faux floral designs and the launch of her new London business, Twinkle & Twine.

Hi Lucy, please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hello! My name is Lucy Fisher-Jenkins, I’m originally from Cardiff, South Wales, but have now lived and worked in London for over a decade. I just love the fact that there is always something new to discover in London, and it’s the perfect city to try new things and explore every opportunity. I am lucky enough to live next to the river, and can often be found meandering up and down the Thames Path, across Hammersmith Bridge and back through Barnes, admiring the local wildlife, and the local pubs!

Tell us about Twinkle & Twine…

Based in Chiswick, West London, I make bespoke floral creations for businesses and homes which are sustainable, unique, fun and magical. I offer a custom service to create Instagram-worthy activations that will have people stopping in their tracks to take photos to share across their social media platforms. I specialise in creating the ‘wow’ factor to help increase talkability around your brand. My business is launching this weekend with a very special Christmas car on Chiswick Mall, at Mari Deli and Dining, so be sure to tag us on Instagram if you’re in the area!

How do you ensure your commitment to sustainability?

By creating artificial flower installations using responsibly purchased materials such as ex-shop displays bought at auctions and markets, which I then recondition and repurpose into my own designs. The three tenets of sustainability are reduce, re-use and recycle which means the more we reuse our creations, the more we reduce our carbon footprint. Faux flowers can last for years, which means the environmental cost involved in using freshly cut flowers is diminished.

What made you want to start your business?

I come from a very entrepreneurial family so being in business has always been a passion of mine.I am very creative with a penchant for seasonal decorating, and have been called Mrs. Christmas on more than one occasion! With the huge trend we’re currently seeing in floral and window designs across the retail and restaurant sectors, it feels like the right time to offer something a little different in that space, as I use a mixture of faux florals and all sorts of other sustainably-sourced props and trinkets in my designs. I’ve already secured a few exciting commissions in my local area which I can’t wait to bring to life!

Do you have a background in design?

I have had an extensive career in event and experiential design and management, and learnt a lot about large-scale installations when I managed consumer and fan events and experiential for The LEGO Group. There I got to work with some incredible people creating huge builds, activities and interactive experiences which were bold and showstopping. It’s so important in this day and age to incorporate photo opportunity areas which are shareable and fun - the PR a brand can get from this is far more wide-reaching than some of the traditional marketing methods.

Describe your perfect day in London.

At this time of year, it’s all about the Christmas lights for me! I absolutely love wandering around London when the sun goes down, taking in the bright lights of Knightsbridge, Liberty, Oxford Street and Carnaby Street, with a wooly hat on my head and a hot mulled festive drink in hand. Then a cosy evening spent playing backgammon with my lovely husband next to the fireplace at The Black Lion in Hammersmith. The day ends with a big glass of Bailey’s and a Christmas film of course!

Do you have a floral-related quote to live by?

“When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.” - Alexander Den Heijer
