The holiday season in London officially kicks off this month with instagram literally lighting up with Christmas switch-on announcements. We’ve been keeping an eye on our feed for all the latest save-the-dates, so that we can bring you the latest light switch on news across the city. 

From Oxford Street's starry sustainability to Covent Garden's golden glow-up, to local community events, we've got you covered. 

OXFORD STREET: A Star-Studded Affair

Switch-On Date: 2nd November

Oxford Street leads the way, bathing London in the warm glow of Christmas lights from the 2nd of November. This year, they've made sustainability a star feature with 300,000 LED lights, using two-thirds less energy than before. You can even sponsor a star through Oxford Street's partnership with the Starlight children's charity.

CARNABY STREET: A Cosmic Carnival

Switch-On Date: 8th November

Carnaby's festive themes are always a hit, and for 2023, it's 'Carnaby Universe'. Head over to see neon waves, shimmering discs, and vibrant light displays. Due to a weather warning, the switch-on party has been rescheduled to the 8th of November, so there’s still time to catch the countdown! 

COVENT GARDEN: A Golden Transformation

Switch-On Date: 7th November

Covent Garden has had a glittering makeover this Christmas. Imagine 40 giant bells, 12 enormous baubles, and eight spinning mirrors — all adorned with 29 miles of gold leaf and 275 kilos of glitter. The piazza will be lit up with over 140,000 LED lights, creating a festive spectacle like never before

REGENT STREET: An Angelic Glow

Switch-On Date: 9th November

Regent Street and St James's are lighting up the night sky on the 9th of November. Over 50 'Spirit of Christmas' angels will grace the streets, joined by new displays on Glasshouse Street, Heddon Street, and more. A total of 300,000 low-energy LEDs will twinkle, making this a truly magical experience.

MARYLEBONE: A Sustainable Sparkle

Switch-On Date: 9th November

Marylebone Village brings a fresh, sustainable glow to Christmas. The lights, made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, use 95% less energy. Reduced operating hours will also contribute to a 58.2% energy saving. Join the festivities on the 9th of November for a cheerful celebration.

ST CHRISTOPHER’S PLACE: A Colourful Extravaganza

Switch-On Date: 14th November

St Christopher's Place transforms into a Christmas wonderland on the 14th of November. Vibrantly coloured discs will light up the area, creating a cheerful atmosphere. Don't miss the free festive performances every Thursday and Saturday in the run-up to Christmas.

BELGRAVIA: A Radiant Experience

Switch-On Date: 15th November

Belgravia's Christmas lights promise a radiant display. Motcomb Street, Elizabeth Street, Pimlico Road, Eccleston Yards, and Halkin Arcade will shimmer with festive cheer. The launch event on the 15th of November features carols, Santa Claus, and a pop-up Christmas market.

CHELSEA: A Regal Affair

Switch-On Date: 18th November

Chelsea's Christmas lights switch-on is a full-day affair on the 18th of November. King's Road will be transformed into a festive market, with live entertainment and Santa's reindeer. The grand switch-on, accompanied by a light show and fireworks, promises to be a regal spectacle.

TRAFALGER SQUARE: A Norwegian Gift

Switch-On Date: 7th December

The iconic Trafalgar Square Christmas tree, a gift from Norway, will be illuminated on the 7th of December. Join the Mayor of Westminster, Norwegian Ambassador, and governing Mayor of Oslo for this special event.

EARLS COURT: A Community Celebration

Switch-On Date: 24th November

Join the Earl's Court community on the 24th of November for a festive celebration. Enjoy live music, carols, and indulge in free hot chocolate. The lights will be switched on at 5:00 pm by the Mayor of Southwark, Michael Situ.

EAST VILLAGE: Christmas Tree Lighting

Switch-On Date: 30th November

East Village residents can come together on the 30th of November for the lighting of the Christmas tree. Enjoy live music, street food, and vintage shopping for sustainable gifts.

BOND STREET: Switch-On Date Announced Soon

Bond Street, known for its luxury and elegance, is gearing up for a dazzling display this Christmas season. Last year, over 90,000 LED lights transformed the district into a regal wonderland. Inspired by the Crown Jewels and the area's historic jewellery stores, the decorations added a touch of opulence to this renowned shopping destination.

With tiara-like gateways and luminous 'necklaces' gracing the streets, Bond Street shone with a captivating radiance. As we eagerly await this year's festivities, we can't help but hope for a return of this mesmerising display. The Bond Street lights have become an emblem of holiday splendour, and we're excited to see how they'll once again enchant this iconic locale.

LEADENHALL MARKET: Tradition Meets Radiance

Switch-On Date: 16th November

There is just 1 week until the Lord Mayor of London’s annual Christmas lights switch-on at Leadenhall Market! At 5.15pm on Thursday 16 November, children from London Youth Choirs will sing uplifting carols to kick start the ceremony, followed by the Lord Mayor’s speech and Christmas lights switch on at 6pm.

The ceremony will complete with pyrotechnic firework fountains - unveiling the full splendour of Leadenhall Market’s giant real Christmas tree, which sits under our breathtaking central star-covered atrium. In addition to the lights, you will find an eight-metre tall glittering Christmas tree decked with a colour changing LED light display, Fir tree garlands throughout the market, designed by longstanding family run florist, Windsor Flowers and a twinkling light tunnel.

ELEPHANT AND CASTLE: Radiant Return

Switch-On Date: 24th November

Get ready for the return of the famous Christmas lights switch-on event at Elephant and Castle on the 24th of November. Castle Square will be transformed into a festive wonderland, complete with live music, carols, and special guests. Children will have the chance to visit Santa, post their Christmas wishes, and warm up with complimentary gift vouchers for hot chocolate and non-alcoholic mulled wine. At 5:00pm, the Mayor of Southwark, Michael Situ, will have the honour of officially switching on the lights, accompanied by the melodic sounds of carols from the Southwark Brass Band and the Castle Square Community Choir. It's an event not to be missed, promising an evening of joy and community spirit.

CLAPHAM: A Christmas Extravaganza

Switch-on date: 1st December

Get ready for a dazzling display at Clapham Common! The Christmas light switch-on is happening on December 1st, and it's going to be a day filled with festive fun. Starting at 2:30 pm, you can enjoy food stalls, craft markets, thrilling rides, live music, and even join decoration-making workshops. Plus, there's a special guest to illuminate the night. This year, a flying cow will also be gracing the skies of Clapham!

London is set to dazzle with an array of enchanting Christmas light switch-ons.
