Women’s History Month 2023: 9 Ways To Celebrate in London

Women’s History Month is observed annually around the world every March, with International Women’s Day taking place on March 8th.

Across the capital London institutions will be celebrating with events throughout the month, from tours, to talks, to comedy nights and workshops.

Here’s some of the highlights.

Women of the World (WOW) Festival

Commemorating women, girls and non-binary individuals, this festival (led by founder Jude Kelly) has paved the way for influential performers, activists and voices, including Marian Keyes, Patrisse Cullors, Bernadine Evaristo, Elizabeth Day, Pandora Sykes, Candice Braithwaite, Bridget Christie, Natalie Haynes, Lisa Taddeo and Deborah Frances-White. Taking place across three days (Friday to Sunday) the line-up includes exciting discussions, workshops, performances, and more. Women’s History Month Open Mic Evening

Go along and share your poems and short pieces, or some writing you find inspirational, celebrating women who tell our stories. Speak your truth and listen to others at Redbridge Central Library's WHM-inspired open mic night, where stories and poems celebrating women are shared.

No Direction Home- All-Female Comedy Evening

Be Bold Now London 2023

During Women's History Month, Be Bold Now are hosting a compelling conversation with some of the UK's most courageous women leaders to acknowledge the extraordinary achievements of women and to motivate others to take concreate action to close the gender gap and build a more equitable world. Celebrating Women's History Month: Voices of Women in Health Tech

Join Loft Digital and Health Foundry as they celebrate Women's History Month in March with their Female Founders Network. The theme for this event is "Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories" and will focus on the intersection of women's health and technology. This is an opportunity to hear from industry leaders and connect with like-minded individuals The event aims to recognise and honour the accomplishments of female founders in the digital health and tech industry, highlighting the challenges and successes whilst shedding light on the importance of personal wellbeing.

International Women’s Day at The Other Art Fair

To mark International Women’s Day, The Other Art Fair is featuring an impressive 61% female artist line-up, championing some of the most exciting emerging female talents working today. Presented by Saatchi Art, you can expect a vibrant programme of exciting features, guest exhibitions and immersive installations, including a site-specific entrance installation created by The Sistxrhood, Glastonbury’s female, non-binary and trans venue. There’ll also be a presentation by Refugee Art Works (RAW), a new multinational collective of female refugee artists and craft makers, who will be exhibiting artworks created by female refugee artists from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, and Saudi Arabia.

The Vagina Festival

You can enjoy an open mic night, sign up (if you dare) where names will be picked from a hat to decide whether a lucky v fest go-ers will be gracing the stage. After the open mic be prepared for some creative writing workshops, followed by headline acts and drag excellence.
Throughout the evening you'll have the chance to shop at our mini-market to support feminist artists and their chosen charity, Women Kind and Gendered Intelligence. Last but not least there will be a raffle.l, with all money raised going to the charities or as part of the higher tier ticket to support the festival funding.

Museum late: Women’s History Month

The Bank of England Museum is marking Women’s History Month with a free hybrid talk by Dr Lila O’Leary Chambers, historian of race, slavery, and commodification. More details, including how to register for this talk, can be found below. The museum will be open until 8pm, so you can also explore the museum before or after the talk. The Speaker: Lila O’Leary Chambers is historian of race, slavery, and commodification in the early modern Atlantic world. Currently a Research Fellow at Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, she formerly worked as a Research Fellow on the Register of British Slave-Traders Project at UCL.
