London In Bloom

London’s  most photogenic flowers are back in bloom

Spring has come early to London and the city’s famed purple wisteria blossoms are starting to bloom early this year. These beautiful, and quintessentially British, flowers can be discovered delicately draped across pretty London mews houses, creeping up the walls of picturesque restaurants and cafes, or in one of the lush green London parks, throughout London’s prettiest season. These flowers are so photogenic, it’s no surprise that #WisteriaHysteria is such a popular instagram trend!

Here’s a list of the best wisteria hot spots to head to in London this spring.

Kynance Mews | South Kensington

Kynance Mews is one of the most famous spots in London for spotting wisteria blooms. The contrast between the flowering purple and brick walls, plus the quiet road, make it ideal for avid photographers.

Sumner Place | South Kensington

Another wisteria haven located in South Kensington. Here you will find rows of quaint white mews houses with weeping vines trailing across the balconies and columns.

Elm Place | Kensington & Chelsea

Located between Kensington and Chelsea, Elm Street is a picturesque street that is photogenic on a good day, and even better in spring.

Bedford Gardens | Kensington

Also in Kensington, this street is famed for its majestic houses with trailing vines that reach up to the roof.

Gordon Place | Kensington

This Kensington tree-lined street boasts gorgeous Victorian terraces within a cul-de-sac, don’t trust us, head here to see it for yourself

Holland Park | Kensington

A stone’s throw from some of the other locations on this list, Holland Park is probably the least intrusive. The 22-hectare space has many beautiful gardens and there are plenty of wisteria trees to see.

Ensor Mews | Kensington & Chelsea

On the cusp of Kensington and Chelsea, Ensor Mews is a wonderland for wisteria vines. As we head further into Spring, the flowers will start to cover the entire wall of the buildings right up to the roof.

St. Leonard’s Terrace | Chelsea

In this street in Chelsea, there are a few houses set back from the street, which means the wisteria has the chance to weep over fences and gates.

Cheyne Walk | Chelsea

Right by the Thames in Chelsea, some of the homes on Cheyne Walk even have light purple doors to match and it’s the sweetest thing we’ve ever seen.

Notting Hill

Already a photogenic neighborhood, it’s even better in springtime! Be prepared for some crowds, but also know that they’re worth battling. This house in Notting Hill is stunning.

Peckham Rye Park

Every Spring the pergola in Sexby Garden transforms into a beautiful lilac tunnel, dripping with tendrils of wisteria. It’s a peaceful spot, outside of central London so head there just before sunset and you may even have the park to yourself.

Wisteria in Golders Hill Park

To the west of Hampstead Heath, but technically part of the same nature conservation zone, Golders Hill Park boasts flower gardens, duck ponds, unlike the Heath's untamed loveliness. By late spring it's a mass of purple and green with wisteria growing across the trellises.
