Life drawing? Tried it. Netflix? Completed it. Walking? Oh please. As lockdown rumbles on and the weather warms up, we’re all in need of a screen-free way to unwind. Here’s how to keep your mind and hands occupied (both indoors and outdoors) over the next few weeks.

 

Pottery at home

This London-based company offers an at-home pottery class experience that you won’t want to miss. Order a kit and watch one of their on demand classes to get to grips with your clay. Each kit can be shared between two and contains everything you'll need to sculpt, carve, paint and seal four small pots. Online Cookalong 

Before you reach for your Deliveroo app for the third time this week (just us?), how about trying something new in the kitchen? Up your culinary skills with an online cookery class with the expert chefs from Borough Kitchen. Classes vary from mastering ‘Thai classics’; to ‘How to make fresh pasta from scratch’ and essential ‘Applied Knife Techniques’. Weekly evening sessions are available for a range of classes.

Hackney Herbal workshops  

Start your own kitchen garden or learn more about herbs that are good for your complexion with Hackney Herbal. Each workshop will leave you inspired by everything the natural world has to offer, not to mention the tools to bring a piece of it alive on your own windowsill.

Sofa Singers 

Sofa Singers is a free bi-weekly online singing event that brings people together from around the world. Set up by vocal leader James Sills as a response to the pandemic, each session offers 45 minutes of singing with hundreds of people in real-time. Together, you’ll learn a classic song with some optional harmonies and backing parts, and afterwards, get to know each other over a virtual tea break. Tea is followed by ‘open mic’ where you can share a song, a poem or a story.

Price: Book a single session for free or for access to all sessions become a member for £10 a month

Date and time: Tuesday evenings at 7.30 pm and Friday mornings at 11 am.

Street Art 

Ever-changing and never boring, London’s streets are awash with some of the greatest and well-known street artists from around the world. Did you know there’s a Bansky in Poplar? Or that street sculptors ‘Broccoli man’ and ‘Mushroom Boy’ have creations sprouting up in and around Brick Lane?
